Preceding President Emmanuel Macron’s Address to the Nation

I present to you what preceded French President Emmanuel Macron’s important address to the nation on March 14, 2024:

  • Russia is an enemy state.
  • Russia is a destabilizing force in the Caucasus, the Middle East, and Africa.
  • The city of Lviv in Ukraine is only 1500 kilometers away from Strasbourg, so the war in Ukraine concerns us as the French people.
  • If Russia wins this war, the lives of the French and all Europeans will change.
  • Our nuclear capacity provides confidence to the French.
  • Russia cannot and should not win this war.
  • France will do whatever it takes to achieve its goals. Deciding to be weak today is already admitting defeat.
  • Today, we are ready to use all necessary means, including sending troops, to ensure that Russia does not win the war in Ukraine.
